Fwiw - CDC cause of death data, as reported by coroners and medical examiners, is showing a 4% drop in homicide deaths from 2021 to 2022, with 26,113 homicide deaths in 2021 and 25,052.
Just thought that might be another bit of confirming evidence to add to the mix. Coroners don't have much to say about other forms of crime, but because death certificates are required by law the CDC numbers on homicide seem to be more reliable and complete than the FBI numbers on the same. From what I can tell, the CDC usually tallies about 10% more murders than the FBI does, although that can vary a lot by jurisdiction;
