Introducing some new ways to analyze crime and policing data
Hi there, I create dashboard for a living, and I’m fascinated by crime data. What application do you use to create? Could you draft a post on your process of us data nerds?
Mainly PowerBI but we work in Tableau and Google Data Studio as well.
That's a great idea for a post, I'll try and put one together!
I love Tableau and I’m coming to love Power BI. Great work!
Good stuff Jeff.
Are there dashboards for other cities to see what their recruiting numbers did post 2020?
Hey Nick,
There are a few places that have similar data publicly available.
Nashville has a dashboard on attrition (https://www.nashville.gov/departments/police/data-dashboard/officer-attrition),
South Bend has a dashboard on recruitment (https://southbendin.gov/transparency-and-performance/police-transparency-hub/sbpd-recruitment-data/)
And New York publishes the data through the lens of complaints against officers (https://www.nyc.gov/site/ccrb/policy/data-transparency-initiative-mos.page)
And a couple other places publish reports on their officer size (including NOPD's!).
Here's San Francisco, for example: https://www.sanfranciscopolice.org/your-sfpd/published-reports/demographics
and Portland: https://www.portland.gov/police/open-data/ppb-staffing-report
IDK about anyone else, but the link to the YTD murder dashboard isn't opening for me.
Fixed it, thanks for the heads up!
